1-22-2006 winding down the weekend 2006-01-22 - 10:58 p.m. Sunday night and I hate to bring the weekend to an end. Friday night I had a ticket for a new play...preview of a world premiere. I got downtown early enough to finally dine a Cuban restaurant I've only visited for drinks and music before. I found myself a seat at the tiny bar under the huge ceiling fan and settled in with dos caipirinhas and a script. Ordered up two appetizers for dinner...shrimp ceviche and vegetarian empanadas. Pure bliss. Alas, the play wasn't as good as that. Standing up at the end I saw my friend across the theater. He'd made it right at curtain so sat near the door. Since I'd convinced him to come downtown for it, I figured I at least owed him a drink, so we went back to the Cuban restaurant for some negra modelo before heading home. Saturday I finally read a friend's play I'd been meaning to read for months and spoiled myself with some tea and toast with marmite. Then errands and projects were calling so I spent the day out hopping store to store with a stop off to see Nine Lives, which blew me right away. Saturday night a girlfriend and I went to see Toubab Crewe, who were positively incredible. I'm hooked on the cd now and they got me all riled up. Ended up awake til after 2 am. Then this morning I headed out to finally do a photography project for the house. I have a set of frames for the kitchen I needed some photos for so my camera and I headed into the Italian markets. Got some great shots and now just have to weed them down to the six to use. I painted my railing at last, something I've been meaning to do since I moved in, but only recently figured out the color I wanted. I filled up the crock pot with vegetable soup and set up the breadmaker for a loaf of honey wheat bread. The house still smells incredible. The guys came over tonight for dinner and Hustle and Flow. And now I finally have to give in and go back to the work week again. These good weekends are starting to grow on me. I'd better look out or I could get really used to this... Pretend it's 10th grade.
