art and wine and weekends oh my

2006-10-16 - 8:49 a.m.

Friday night I ran out of work a bit early and headed home to cook up some herbed dijon-balsamic vinaigrette potato salad and pack up for the weekend. Quick change and a mad dash out the door to pick up Meekay at the train so we could head off to Perkasie where some of his friends were exhibiting. Had a bit of mapquestiness gettig to the gallery, but a great time there, meeting some wonderful people and checking out some excellent art (see here and here). Alas we had to peel ourselves away early to go catch a bite of dinner and head back homewards.

Dropped M back home and headed off to L&D's to crash out for the night so we could all get on the road at Too Early o'Clock to head to Long Island for winery tours.

We made quick time in the morning and had time for a good diner breakfast and a chance to shower and clean up before the van came to pick us up. The wineries were packed to the gills, but we had a blast trying out wines and admiring the area. We had a picnic under sharp blue skies at one winery where they brought our tastings out to us as we ate.

Late afternoon we caught a quick nap back at the hotel and then headed out for a bite of dinner in town before holing up in our hotel room for a little game time. After just one round of Upwords, we were ready to crash hard for the night.

Four of us girls stuck around in the morning. We hung out and chatted for a bit then caught breakfast, wandered a well-stocked health food store and hit three more wineries before getting on the road. Sunday's tastings were more enjoyable because the wineries weren't so crowded, so we got more of a chance to chat with the staff about the wines and learn a little more about what they had. Picked up 7 bottles in all, from some rich, full-bodied reds to a fruity reisling, some blush for Meekay and even a little bottle of port.

Home again to drop my things off and let the cats know I'd not completely abandoned them before Meekay and I headed out to see Fearless and catch a late bite at Uno.

So the final tally...Time with fabulous people: constant. Time spent having fun: constant. Time spent drinking luscious wine: far above average. Time spent sleeping: ok, not so constant, but some things can give. A girl's got to have priorities.

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
