Spamalot, Lambalot, Glamalot and Jamalot

2007-01-15 - 4:36 p.m.

Oh, what a busy weekend it was.

Meekay and I divided Friday night between being productive on some heavy cleaning and lazing about, watching Flying Circus.

Saturday we hopped the Amtrak up to NYC. Caught some clam chowder at the thoroughly touristy Bubba Gump's and saw a matinee of Spamalot. We found it quite funny...if you liked Holy Grail, definitely catch it. Dinner was just a couple of blocks up 44th at Kellari Taverna. They've got a 3-course set-price menu available that was a bargain and a half. We nibbled on olives, roasted pepper hummus and radishes before moving on to kalamari and spanakopita for appetizers. Meekay had lamb that was so pretty even I had to admit it, while I had snapper wrapped in grape leaves with pumpkin and bitter greens. A little saffron custard topped off the meal perfectly. We took a stroll up 5th Avenue and admired the glittering skyline view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building before hopping the train back to Philly. A quick change in the car and we were off to Dracula's Ball at Shampoo.

Sunday morning we slept in and went for brunch at Cafette, made a quick trip to Target. My original plans to be wildly productive were dimmed by a foggy day and a lazy head, so I curled up on the couch and read awhile while Meekay made a hole in his house. (Yes, it was on purpose. He created an access panel to his attic. And grinned heartily when he got to switch to the big saw). Finally I got motivated, hit the supermarket and headed home. Started a loaf of bread in the breadmaker, whipped up a pot of curried vegetable soup, and got a few chores done around the house before Meekay arrived. Dinner was delicious, we had a nice catchup with B, I got the first batch of scripts to read for the season, and we watched the Samuel L. Jackson version of Shaft. Having seen both the original and the remake, I think it's fair to say we are officially funkified.

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
