Shaking the tree

2006-10-09 - 9:01 a.m.

Saturday night Geoff came to my rescue with the offer of an extra ticket to the sold-out Porcupine Tree show at the Keswick. Hurrah! The preshow gang took over the Keswick Tavern and drove the waitstaff into a new plane of perturbation. Metal and prog tshirts were everywhere, including the few uninformed who don't know the concert dress code of never, ever wearing a tshirt of the band you're going to see. Unless it's something weird and collector that nobody else has. (Exception: side bands and solo efforts are fair game. When in doubt, the more obscure the better)

Wes dropped by and his eyes bugged right out when he saw me. Love surprising people. Got a bear hug, an admonition for not calling him to get on the list, and the beginnings of a catchup before fans started lining up to gush. (Aw, can't blame 'em. That boy of ours, he IS one talented beast).

Sat with Geoff's fabulously cool kids for Fripp and the first Ptree set. Had a great discussion about astronomy with his son and spent plenty of time fishing around under the seats for his daughter's earplugs.

The new material is storming. They're heading into the studio right after the tour and should be back promoting the new album in the spring. I'm going to have to start keeping up on these things. Picked up Wes' new live cd and am working my way through it in the car. Some really different turns on the old favorites and that voice, that voice...

...and don't you just wish you got to read about the rest of my weekend... ;)

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
