allergic to life

Interesting weekend. Friday night I got out of work just a little bit early. Headed to the park with a bit of classwork and the ibook for a touch of "fun writing." Walking across the damp grass in my bare feet, heels in one hand, blanket in the other, squinting in the afternoon sun, felt pretty darned great. Dozing off in the shade...even nicer. Stopped by the market afterwards to find something to make for dinner. It felt like a luxury to have time to cook. Ended up getting drawn in by the summertime and made some steamed shrimp and corn on the cob for a messy-to-the-elbows munchfest. Later met up with some neighbors and hit a bar for a coupla drinks and some great conversation. We're going to start up some independent movie nights and put the dvd player to good use. And surely the margarita glasses. ;)

Saturday was lovely with a long morning drive through the country. Country being defined as any area without a 7-11 or a Wawa. Destination was a music festival in a town that hasn't much changed since 1950. Found espresso, juice, and bagels in a little shop that were perfect for a long wander through the town, oohing over the architecture and quaintness for a while before the music kicked off. Caught 11 hours of live music for $28...pretty great deal! There were two stages...one in front of the river where people were pulling up their kayaks in the midst of lilypads to enjoy the tunes, and the other in front of limestone cliffs they lit up once it got dark. Beautiful day.

Alas, I paid the price for all those many hours out in nature and my allergies kicked into full gear by Sunday. Barely got out of bed all day and couldn't kick my headache til about 10pm. So much for all the things I planned to do for the day.

It doesn't seem fair for someone who enjoys the outside so much to be so allergic to it. achoooooooo
