more Grandma stuff

2004-03-10 - 10:15 a.m.

Grandma got married at 17. She was a city girl who married a farm boy, a few years her elder. She was absolutely not equipped for the farm life except for the fact that she had the most patient man around. She says it took her forever to learn the simplest things, like starting a fire. Many a night Grandpa would come home from work to find Grandma in tears after having been unable to light the cookstove. The generous pile of kindling he had left would be gone and she would be flustered and bawling.

Grandma spent a lot of years raising kids. She loved rocking the babies. As she did so, when one of the older kids needed "correcting," she would sing out their warnings and behavior modification in a sing-song like a lullaby.

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
