Office Boxes

time is far too slow this afternoon
and somewhere along the way
i melted into a river
banks defined with dark lipstick
dollar bills hanging in the trees
cold from the snow
listening to the cheering fans die out
and fade into a rush of disappointment
filling out boxes for the office pool
sitting in cubicle boxes
in office building boxes
on gridded streets
subdivided by the raised highways
that crisscross the order
with the promise of escape
to more organic definitions
curved streets
sloping hills
and something other than dollar bills
hanging in taller trees
