Laborious Day

2005-09-06 - 2:25 p.m.

Well, the weekend was productive, but frankly a complete waste of ridiculously beautiful weather. I didn't get to enjoy it at all.

Friday night started with some fairly drastic massage therapy. But she brought me homemade fudge. Aww. Picked up stuff to make Mom's birthday cake. Home for a long chat with an overseas friend and then baked up the cake and racked out to watch The Five Senses before bed.

Saturday up early. Finished up the cake and drove down to MD to surprise Mom for her birthday. She'd been pretty bummed about it this year since recouping from the surgery's got her laid up at home. So my sister and I made her dinner and we all had a visit with my nephews. She talked me into staying over and then I dug into helping my stepdad with his ipod crisis (he'd accidentally wiped all his music out) and I didn't get home til late evening on Sunday.

On the way down to MD I passed a relief convoy coming from NY. Bazillion busses, trucks and NYPD vehicles also with additional MD trooper escort. Passed another convoy with even more fanfare that had blocked off the highway northbound so it could pass, but then found out that one was just the Naval Academy on its way to their football game. Yessir, we do have priorities in line.

So Monday was the one day left to try to catch up on some of the desperately overdue house stuff. Back wasn't up for tackling the yard so I did some random cleaning, four loads of laundry, two years of filing and a Target run. Did get dinner out with a friend for a long overdue catchup, but the outdoor seating was full so we ate inside.

It's still gorgeous and I am in the office feeling like someone's ripping apart my internal organs. But I know that compared to a lot of folks out there, I've still got it good. I'd just like to have it good out in the sunshine a little bit. Sometime.

Tonight's my first night of director's training for my new volunteer gig. In about a month I should be able to do my audition to be a reader for Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic. Lots to do in the training til then.

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
