Animal Extremism

2004-05-14 - 4:50 p.m.

Well, this really flames my monkeys. When people protest cruel abuses of animals, we're calling it "animal extremism" yet the cruelty itself isn't considered extreme. Hm. Ok.

And now on Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee's going to start taking a look at expanding protection for businesses from economic harm caused by said 'animal extremists.' As part, they want to "prevent activists from employing tactics designed to cause significant economic damage and disruption to animal enterprises." Hello? Isn't protest, boycott, etc. all supposed to be legal and doesn't that result in economic damage and disruption when it works?

I understand folks having problems with things like bombings, threats, etc. but don't they remember that those behaviors are ALREADY crimes and have penalties, PERIOD. No matter what the reason causing it. Why should there be more penalties bombing somebody because they've been cruel to animals than there would be just for bombing them because they broke your fingernail?

Bad behavior is bad behavior. Why do we let our politicians get away with protecting the rights of the businesses more than those of the population to be able to protest or of the poor critters? We have no right to complain about special interests ruling politics unless we get off our duffs and stop voting these folks into office. grrrrrrrr

(rant off. happy weekend, all.)

Pretend it's 10th grade. Leave me a note.
